The North Tonawanda Common Council will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 216 Payne Ave., on a proposal to change the traffic patterns on Nash Road and Payne Avenue in 2019, without widening either street.
City Engineer Dale W. Marshall said Nash Road would be converted from four lanes to three - northbound, southbound, and a center left-turning lane - with the possibility of on-street parking on one side, depending on how the lanes are configured. There are no paved shoulders on either side of the road now.
A similar plan is proposed for Payne Avenue between Meadow Drive and Walck Road.
Marshall said the purpose of the proposals is "to try to produce a safer situation and have traffic-calming effects."
