Niagara County Community College is inaugurating a "Smart Start" scholarship program that will bring 100 students $2,000 each toward the cost of an education at the Sanborn campus.
Robert McKeown, vice president for enrollment management, said Friday that two of the scholarships will be provided each year to every Niagara County high school for its counselors to award to graduating seniors headed to NCCC.
Besides those 22 scholarships, eight scholarships will be presented as awards for winning culinary competitions at the NCCC Culinary Institute. The other 70 will be "comeback scholarships," aimed at people who left school after accumulating at least 30 credit hours, who are interesting in finishing their associate's degrees.
The scholarships will be paid at the rate of $1,000 per semester, McKeown said.
