Southtowns Walleye announces award winners

The Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY held its annual Harry A. Smith Installation Dinner and Awards Program last weekend at Lucarelli’s Banquet Facility, Lackawanna. Outgoing president David “Woody” Woodworth gave special President’s Awards to Amy and Brian Plecas of Colden for their hard work on the newsletter and to Carol Scott of Hamburg for her work with clothing and other promotional items.

Incoming president Sue Guenther presented the remaining awards for 2017:

Conservationist of the Year – Jason Robinson, aquatic biologist with DEC’s Lake Erie Unit.

Lou Podger Senior Angler Award – Gene Pauszek of Dunkirk for catching an 11.4-pound walleye (senior angler over 65 years of age catching the largest fish).

Youth of the Year – Lana Woodworth of Angola and Julia Stechenfinger of Sloan.

Public Servant of the Year – Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard.

Larry Scheffler Memorial Award (for club service over several years) – Rusty Ellis of Silver Creek.

Special Recognition Award – George Szczublewski of Hamburg.

Special sponsor awards went to Fran Brobeil of Brobeil Marine and Matt Taylor of XOAR Communications.

James Ridge Memorial Award (for outstanding service to the club in the past year) – Mike Jackson of Hamburg.

Harry A. Smith Memorial Award (outstanding service to the club long-term) – Bob Fessler of Orchard Park.
