February 17, 2018. Beloved wife of 50 years of James R. Moesch PhD. Loving Mother of James Raymond McCarthy Moesch (Sara Griffiths) and Anne-Marie McCarthy Moesch (Michael Ciccotello). Loving Gramma of Benjamin Moesch and Maxwell and Oliver McCarthy Ciccotello. Daughter of the late Melvin McCarthy and the late Dorothy (nee Flanagan) and sister of the late Mary Anne Wesley and aunt of Sara Wesley. A native of Portsmouth, NH, in June of 1958, she was elected Governor of Granite Girls State for New Hampshire. Sheila graduated from Portsmouth High School class of 1959 where she was one of two voted most likely to succeed. She then attended Mount St. Mary's College in Hooksett, NH where she obtained a BA in Mathematics and was elected president of the Senior Class of 1963. In 1964 she moved to Buffalo, NY where she obtained a Masters Degree in Mathematics at SUNY Buffalo. She was an Assistant Mathematics Professor at Villa Maria College and in the SEEK Program at the SUNY College at Buffalo as well as SUNY Buffalo. She then served as the Vice President and Director of Training of Sigma Systems Technology, the company she founded and grew for over 20 years with her husband Jim. She finished her teaching career as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Canisius College, where she taught for 20 years and loved getting her full classes of students excited about math and personal finance (especially the power of compound interest!). Sheila leaves behind a world of friends who will remember her love of travel, her brilliant laugh and sense of humor as well as her unending kindness and generosity. Sheila will be missed and forever loved by her large extended family, children, and grandchildren who were all the light of her life. Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Dengler Roberts, Perna Funeral Home, 8630 Transit Rd., East Amherst. (1 mile north of Maple Rd., just past Klein Rd.). Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Saturday, 10am from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church (Main st. at Harris Hill). Burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, NH at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sheila's name may be made to the Food Bank of WNY, 91 Holt St., Buffalo, NY 14206 or Covenant House of Buffalo. www.denglerrobertspernafuneral.com
