Foolish legislators should read Watson’s column on SAFE Act
Congratulations to Rod Watson and his Feb. 8 column regarding the SAFE Act. The acronym for SAFE in this instance should be Stupid And Futile Endeavor. The act was a dumb law from the start, as Watson pointed out. He didn’t state that the law violated four constitutional and civil rights, like property rights, rights to privacy and the right to due process.
Then there is the part of the Second Amendment that clearly states “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” When looking for a definition for that word, violated is the usual synonym. Obviously, the liberal left legislators and the governor didn’t care about the “right of the people.”
Watson focused on the main reason that the law doesn’t work to reduce “gun violence.” It is because criminals don’t obey laws. Simple to understand, but obviously the supporters of the bill are not smart enough to realize it. Thank you for pointing that out.
There has never been a problem with the honest, law-abiding gun owner. A gun isn’t dangerous unless it is held by an evil or deranged person. That is where the law shows its stupidity. It puts a penalty on people who are not criminals unless they fail to recertify. This is a law that definitely needs to be repealed.
