The driver of a pickup that crashed and overturned in a drainage ditch Tuesday in Orchard Park was later pronounced dead, according to the Orchard Park Police Department.
Police were called to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. after receiving calls about a vehicle that had crashed on Taylor Road near the Route 219 overpass, Orchard Park Police said.
Officers found the truck overturned in a drainage ditch, partially submerged in water, Orchard Park Police said.
Orchard Park Police said the operator of the pickup was trapped inside and unresponsive. The driver was extricated by an Orchard Park police officer who, with assistance from motorists, attempted to revive the unconscious driver, Orchard Park Police said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Orchard Park Police said.
The Erie County HazMat Team was dispatched to the scene because of fluid leaks from the truck being released into standing water in the ditch, Orchard Park Police said.
The identity of the male victim was withheld by police late Tuesday.
