The Pazinskis are back. And this time they're singing.
Tom Dudzick's "Christmas Over the Tavern," a holiday musical featuring the beloved clan of working-class Catholics from the playwright's popular "Over the Tavern" series, is set for MusicalFare Theatre's 2018-19 season.
"For years I've had this idea to do a Christmas story with these guys, with the Pazinskis," Dudzick said in a phone interview. "Growing up, for me, like any other kid, Christmas was the be-all, end-all of your life."
Dudzick has been working on the show for about two years and has been workshopping it at MusicalFare, he said. The attempt follows his unsuccessful effort about four years ago to revive one of the musicals he co-wrote in the '70s with his longtime Buffalo collaborator and friend John Cimasi.
"I tried to add more songs and gussy up the music, and that reminded me of how much I enjoyed writing music," he said. "That endeavor with the old musical failed, but I still had this yearning."'
Stay tuned for more on Dudzick's show as it gets closer.
