Sunoco clerk roughed up during Gates Circle robbery

A thief stole a full cash register after assaulting a clerk early Sunday at the Sunoco gas station at the intersection of Delaware and West Delavan avenues in Buffalo.

The Sunoco employee told Buffalo Police that an unknown man confronted him around 3 a.m. Sunday, grabbed him by the collar, punched him in the face and shoved him to the ground, injuring his right leg. The robber gestured to his waistband and threatened to start shooting if the register wasn't opened, according to the report.

The suspect then "did forcibly steal full register" and took off heading west on West Delavan Avenue, the report stated. The clerk was taken to Erie County Medical Center for the evaluation of his injuries.
