We must all get involved to keep democracy alive
I was pleased to read the NeXt article about the model United Nations conference. In 1950, Kensington High School selected me and another classmate to attend the conference in Cleveland, Ohio, where U.N. diplomat Ralph Bunche was the keynote speaker.
The experience was inspiring and helped direct my career path as a social worker and activist in the Western New York Peace Center. We continue to live in troubling times that require all of us, young and old, to become involved in organizations like the League of Women Voters, to study, volunteer and act on issues that will keep our democracy alive and thriving.
