Letter: Hackers pose a danger to those shopping online

Hackers pose a danger to those shopping online

I read with interest the fact that Sears, Bon-Ton, Macy’s and J.C. Penney are closing stores all over the country. Online shopping seems to be killing brick-and-mortar stores.

My handicapped wife, Bernie, has used online purchases and home delivery to get goods without shopping at stores.

Unfortunately she discovered that hackers are so sophisticated now that they recently took control of our computer and credit card accounts. She managed to discover the scam quickly and canceled our credit cards.

Bernie is now afraid to use the computer to make online purchases. If enough people are hacked, computer use anxiety will grow and bring a halt to online business transactions. Stores will need to step into the breach to get goods to customers. Stores should realize this and play up the safety of actually going shopping to eliminate the computer hacking danger.
