Don’t cut federal funding for PBS, vital reporting
President Trump’s proposal to eliminate federal funding for public broadcasting is unwarranted. (This is a revival of former President George W. Bush’s intention.)
The financial support for the Public Broadcasting Service is .01 percent of the $4 trillion federal budget – obviously not a big-ticket item.
Public programming – with the varied array of quality choices – is often a haven from the glut of commercial TV offerings I categorize as distasteful, mundane and of low caliber.
PBS’ independence empowers it to provide “uncanned” news reporting and introspective commentary.
It’s worthy of continued government investment!
