What to watch for Saturday

1. Girls basketball - Cardinal O'Hara at Williamsville South, 1 p.m.

No. 1 large school Cardinal O'Hara (18-6) puts its 86-game winning streak against Western New York competition on the line when it visits No. 2 Williamsville South (14-4).

There are also tournaments at Wilson and Lockport in other girls action.

2. Basketball - Section VI seeding meetings

The official brackets for the Section VI boys and girls basketball playoffs will be released this afternoon on

3. Boys hockey - Section VI large school quarterfinals

There's a four-game slate at Northtown Center to determine who moves onto Tuesday's semifinals at HarborCenter.

  • 1-Williamsville North vs. 8-Niagara Falls, 9:30 a.m.
  • 2-Niagara Wheatfield vs. 7-Lockport, 11:30 a.m.
  • 3-Orchard Park vs. 6-Clarence, 1:30 p.m.
  • 4-Lancaster vs. 5-Frontier, 3:30 p.m.

4. Rifle - Section VI Championships, 9 a.m.

The top shooters in Western New York compete at Alden Middle School for a spot at the NYSPHSAA Championships at West Point on March 3.
