Drunk driver leaves tangle of wires at Darien crash scene, deputies say

A pick-up truck left the road and struck a utility pole, street light and street sign, leaving an accident scene early Saturday in Darien that took hours for emergency responders to clean up, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office reported.

The Sheriff's Office said deputies at about 2 a.m. found a Ford F-250 on the shoulder of the road at Route 20 and Route 238. The pick-up was covered in wires but the driver, Carter S. Dale, of Attica, already had freed himself.

They also found a tractor-trailer caught in the low-hanging wires. Dale was taken to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and was issued two traffic tickets. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

The intersection was shut down for hours.
