A 29-year-old man was found half-naked and severely beaten early Saturday in an alley off Pierce Avenue in Niagara Falls, police said. He was rushed to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance after losing a large amount of blood, according to police reports.
Officer Darren DeSantis said he located Timothy L. Paonessa sitting on the ground in the 1800 block of Pierce Avenue just after 4 a.m. He was unclothed from the waist down and had sustained severe cuts to the forehead and right cheek areas, according to reports. Due to his condition, he was unable to tell police what had happened, other than to say "look what they did to me."
His pants, wallet and keys were found scattered in the alleyway in a "trail of blood," DeSantis said. Paonessa was also "covered in blood" as a result of a "brutal beating," DeSantis wrote in his report.
A witness in the area reported a man and woman arguing in the area just before Paonessa was found, but police were not certain whether the two incidents were related. No suspects have been identified in connection with the attack.
