The Village of Williamsville is overhauling its sign code.
The Village Board earlier this month appointed a nine-member committee to oversee the revision. That committee includes representatives from the village Planning Board, sign companies, business owners and others, said Trustee Deborah Rogers.
The village also hired the Steinmetz Planning Group of Rochester to lead the project.
Rogers said the existing sign code is hard for planners and businesses alike to decipher, and village officials hope to have a new code in place within six months.
She said the committee primarily will look at the size and location of signs, notably the decal signs that some businesses put in windows. She said village officials don't want people walking on Main Street to be distracted by overpowering signs.
The Sign Code Committee will hold its first meeting on Thursday.
