Man beaten as drug deal goes bad in Niagara Falls

A man who tried buying Xanax pills from two people Wednesday afternoon outside a tobacco shop in Niagara Falls was beaten and robbed, according to a city police report.

An officer driving on Pine Avenue spotted the attack at about 5:40 p.m. outside Mario's, 2304 Pine Ave., according to the report. When the officer pulled up, the two suspects ran from the scene. They had punched and kicked the victim, he told police, and took his cash and a winning lottery ticket.

About 15 minutes later, a person matching the description of one of the suspects was seen running in an alley between 19th and 20th streets and was apprehended by police.

Markel S. Page, 21, of 19th Street, was charged with second-degree robbery and petit larceny, according to Niagara Falls police. The other suspect was not apprehended, according to the report.
