Investigators say Buffalo apartment fire was arson

Investigators believe someone intentionally started a fire at a Buffalo apartment this week by throwing an incendiary object through a window.

Two men early Sunday morning told police they heard a noise and then smelled smoke inside a Camelot Court first-floor apartment, which is just north of McCarthy Park in the city's University District.

The fire in the two-story, six-unit building caused an estimated $15,000 in damages, the Buffalo Fire Department Alarm Office said.

Some type of incendiary device was used to start the fire, said Lt. James Otwell, of the department's Fire Investigation Unit.
