Doctor pays $450,000 for former Alternative Brews site in Amherst

A physician who plans to move his family-medicine practice into the former Alternative Brews building in Amherst has acquired the property for $450,000.

Dr. Tajinder Pal Singh acquired the property at 3488 Sheridan Drive last week, according to a deed filed with the Erie County Clerk's Office. Singh purchased the property through a limited liability company that has the same address as his Cheektowaga practice.

Alternative Brews, the area's first bar devoted to craft beer, was closed by owner Paul Madsen on Dec. 2 after 22 years in operation.

Singh, who also has a location in Amherst, plans to make renovations to the building before he moves in, according to plans submitted to the town Building Department.

The Amherst Zoning Board of Appeals approved an area variance for the project at its Dec. 19 meeting.
