Mitzie Serafin, the district clerk for the Williamsville Central School District for 24 years, is retiring next month.
Serafin on Tuesday attended her final School Board meeting, where district employees and board members past and present lauded Serafin for her attention to detail, knowledge of school policies, words of encouragement – and enforcement of the rule requiring candidates to stand at least 100 feet from the polls.
Serafin, who also served as records management officer, oversaw 24 School Board elections for the largest suburban district in Erie County. She worked with 72 board members and attended 280 board meetings, said board President Shawn Lemay.
An emotional Serafin thanked officials for the opportunity to work with them. She received a standing ovation after she spoke.
Lynn Carey, a senior clerk typist in the Human Resources Department, will replace Serafin, effective March 2.
