Johnny Manziel says Baker Mayfield is handling comparison 'exactly right'

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield's improvisational genius on the field and some of his antics off it have drawn comparisons with similarly undersized NFL bust Johnny Manziel.

"Everybody wants to portray the bad boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff, but I love the game of football," Mayfield said at the Senior Bowl. "There's no doubt about that. Emotional player. I'll do anything it takes to win. I love being around my teammates, and I love leading and having responsibility."

Manziel and Mayfield are friends and Manziel says he sees the similarities, but he doesn't want observers to take the comparisons too far.

“Me and Baker, I feel like we have a really cool friendship, and I feel like he’s handling [the comparisons] the exact right way,” Manziel said on Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast. “He’s like, ‘Listen,’ and I’ll say the same thing: We’re completely different people. We have a similar background. We’re both from Texas. We both played Texas high school football, but he’s not me, and I’m not him. The way my wires are in my head and the way that I’m built and my makeup is completely different than Baker.”
