Erie County Legislator Patrick B. Burke Monday received the Erie County Democratic Committee's endorsement in his bid for the 142nd District New York State Assembly seat.
Burke, who represents the County Legislature's 7th District, including South Buffalo and Cheektowaga, is seeking election to the Assembly seat vacated by Michael P. Kearns, after Kearns won an election in November to the post of Erie County Clerk.
In a statement, Burke said he was honored to receive the endorsement and vowed to adhere to Democratic principles that included fighting for the middle class and standing up for workers.
“We are proud to support a candidate who has defined himself as a tireless, independent, and honest voice for the working men and women of this community,” Democratic Chairman Jeremy J. Zellner said in a statement Monday evening.
“From his earliest days as an activist to his work in the county legislature, Pat has never been afraid to stand up to power and has always stood for the values we hold dear as Democrats and Americans. He will make an outstanding addition to our delegation,” Zellner said in the statement.
The election will be April 24.
