Sister M. Bernadette Lavocat, a teacher and a Sister of St. Francis for 73 years, died Feb. 4 in St. Mary of the Angels Health Center, Williamsville. She was 92.
Born Margaret Mary Lavocat in Amherst, one of six children, she was taught by the Sisters of St. Francis at St. Mary’s School in Swormville, St. Gerard’s School in Buffalo and Bishop Neumann High School. She entered the congregation in 1945.
Sister Bernadette served as a teacher from 1946 to 1965 at St. Gerard’s School, St. Mary of Sorrows School, St. Nicholas School, St. Francis of Assisi School and Most Holy Redeemer School, all in Buffalo; and at St. Francis School in the City of Tonawanda and Infant of Prague School in Cheektowaga.
She then pursued a ministry of service at St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville, often serving as sacristan and in food service.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Jane Krantz, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Feb. 9 in St. Mary of the Angels Convent, 201 Reist St., Williamsville.
