Democrats to nominate candidate for 142nd Assembly seat Monday

The Erie County Democratic Committee on Monday will nominate a candidate for the 142nd Assembly District in anticipation of April's special election.

April 24 has been designated as the date to fill legislative vacancies across New York State, including the 142nd seat vacated by newly elected Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns.

Most observers see a potential faceoff between two Democrats – Legislator Patrick B. Burke and Erik T. Bohen, a Buffalo Public Schools teacher considering a Republican-Conservative candidacy, The Buffalo News reported last week.

Democrats will hold an executive committee meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, to consider the nomination. Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy J. Zellner, who is also the county’s Democratic elections commissioner, said last week that Burke and Bohen are invited.
