Students ages 7 to 12 can become a Colonial soldier in Gen. George Washington’s encampment at Valley Forge, Pa., at a school holiday event planned for Feb. 19 at the Niagara History Center, 215 Niagara St., Lockport.
Explore a soldier’s life with the legendary commander during the severe winter of 1777-78, as the colonies fought for their freedom from Great Britain. Learn how to sew to mend uniforms and gear; make “fire cakes” for rations; and do drilling exercises with wooden guns. Participants also will build a log cabin out of Lincoln Logs.
Cost is $10 per child, which includes a snack at noon. Advance reservations are required, and caretakers are encouraged to leave children for the duration of the program. Call 434-7433 for reservations or email Education Coordinator Ann Marie Linnabery at email@example.com.
