Luz Torres of Dunkirk has been named deputy Democratic election commissioner in Chautauqua County, the first Latina to hold the position, officials said Wednesday.
Torres has been the board's Spanish-language interpreter, has processed voter registrations and directed poll site operations since 2011. She replaces Doris Parment, who left the board due to illness, county Democratic Election Commissioner Norman P. Green announced.
“We are sad that Doris is not working with us every day,” Green said in a news release. “Luz Torres has big shoes to fill. I am confident that she is up to the task.”
