The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation announced Thursday it has awarded a $1 million grant to the Niagara Community Center in Niagara Falls, and the community sports facility on 66th Street will be renamed after the late Buffalo Bills owner.
Gary P. Hall, the center's president and founder, said the center opened about a year ago on land acquired from the Diocese of Buffalo behind Niagara Catholic High School. It is used for that school's physical education classes, as well as indoor activities by public school teams, the Niagara Police Athletic League and other local groups. After-school tutoring sessions also are held there.
"It's an honor to have Mr. Wilson's name connected with the Niagara Community Center," Hall said. The naming rights were granted for 10 to 15 years.
