WINTER WHIRL – Alden kicks off its 14th annual Winterfest with a variety of events Friday evening for all ages in Alden Town Park, 13116 Main St. There will be ice skating, food trucks and a bonfire at 6 and fireworks at 6:30 p.m. Indoor activities include a murder mystery at 6 p.m. in the American Legion Post, 13143 Broadway, for which admission is charged, and family fun at 7 p.m. in the Community Center, next to the Town Park, where one of the options is a free showing of the Disney animated film, “Moana.”
Saturday will feature a gourmet foods and crafts marketplace from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Village Hall, 13336 Broadway; a chance to visit with Husky dogs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Town Park, ice skating and cross country skiing, plus sleigh rides and snowmobile rides in Town Park; and kids’ activities, including a Lego contest, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Blue Gym at Alden Intermediate School, 1648 Crittenden Road.
It concludes Saturday evening in Village Hall with a wine and cheese tasting from 7 to 10 p.m., drawings for the weekend’s chance auctions at 9 p.m. and the annual Snowball Dance, with music by the Diva Show Band from 7 p.m. to midnight.
