The body of Saul Jesus Vargas, 53, was found in the river in an area known as the Lewiston Sand Docks, which is near the Silo restaurant. The New York City Medical Examiner's Office reported a DNA match had been found with samples sent to the State Police laboratory, police said.

An autopsy performed at Erie County Medical Center revealed nothing suspicious, according to police. He was an undocumented immigrant at the time he was found.

Police do not know why Vargas was in Western New York. He had lived in various places in the country, the closest of which was Nassau County, police said.

Police ask anyone who may have information that could help with the case to call 754-8477.
