Who: Dr. Irfan Khan, founder and chief strategy officer of Circuit Clinical
What he's doing: The company helps physicians participate in clinical studies.
Why he defines the entrepreneurial spirit: Khan believes that patients have a right to choose clinical research as a care option, so he started a company that gives people that option in the comfort of their doctor's office.
"For us, an entrepreneurial spirit has two essential elements: a passionate belief in a worthy vision, and the resolve needed to do the hard work that turns a vision into a reality. I feel Circuit Clinical lives by this ethos every day," Khan says.
Advice for the new entrepreneur: "It's a little trite, but it's absolutely true: If you're the smartest person in the room, find a new room. Everything you need to learn to have any chance of success can only be learned if you surround yourself with people smarter than you, more experienced than you and generous enough to share their wisdom. Then you have to commit to actually listening and reflecting on the advice and insights they'll share. Between my partners, our board, our investors and most definitely our team, I am constantly learning how to get better at my job, and the process is deeply rewarding."
