Building a metal roof pavilion at Veteran's Stadium in Lackawanna would save the city thousands of dollars each year in rental costs incurred for the annual Lackawanna Festival, said Ric Zybert, recreational director.
The city could build a 40 x 80 pavillion with a 12 x 40 foot cold storage area for an estimated $76,000, Zybert said in a letter to the City Council proposing the project. The council is expected to review the letter Monday night at its regular meeting.
"Recreation has spent $4,667 in 2017 renting tents, tables and chairs at Veterans Stadium. In 2016, Lackawanna Recreation spent $5,112 on these rentals," Zybert stated in his letter.
The $76,000 quote included $5,000 fee for stamped architect drawings, $15,000 electrical, and $14,000 for the cold storage building.
"The building alone is $42,000, and the electrical and cold storage could be added on later or even built by city employees," Zybert said.
