Bills center Eric Wood has suffered a career-ending neck injury, sources confirmed to The News on Friday morning. Bills fans and media thanked Wood, who recently welcomed a newborn son, donated time and money to the community and played on the team that broke the Bills 17-year playoff drought.
"To end the drought is special," Wood told reporters at the Bills end-of-season press conference. "That was one of our goals heading into the year. Once we got in the dance, it’s obviously disappointing we didn’t make anything of it in a game that was very winnable (against the Jaguars). That hurts, but looking back and reflecting, ending the drought feels great. I’m just so glad I won’t have to answer ‘so what’s different this year? How are we going to end the drought this year?’"
I am so glad the Bills ended the drought this year so that Eric was able to play in the playoffs. I’m so sad about this news, and I can’t even imagine how he’s feeling. But this makes ending the drought this year just that much more meaningful. #Bills #GoBills #BillsMafia

@EWood70 I am crying for you right now, sick, just sick. As a former Halo wearer of 7months, facture C1-2, I also feel your pain. Barro neurological, Dr Steve Chang, saved my life. Prayers to you and yours.

It's a shame for any player to be told he prematurely has to stop playing but feel even more sad if it's eric wood.
