Super Bowl is being played and America is the football
We don’t need to wait till February for the Super Bowl; it’s being played continuously in Washington, as usual. Like the NFL version, the federal Super Bowl has two teams; but in the D.C. version, the football is our nation – our people, our resources, our environment, our future.
At both Super Bowls, neither team cares about the football; all that matters is winning. So the teams battle it out, and we – the football – get kicked, thrown, pummeled, punted, trampled, bounced and eventually deflated.
In both Super Bowls, corporate money plays far too big a role. But there are differences.
NFL Super Bowl rules are fair and comprehensible, and referees are generally trustworthy. Not so in Washington. And the federal version is impossible to enjoy, because the consequences are too serious. But the game goes on.
