Eric Wood's statement on his career-ending injury

Eric Wood released the following statement regarding his career-ending neck injury:

I was diagnosed with a neck injury as part of my season-ending physical with the Bills. After consultation with Dr. Cappuccino and other physicians, I was informed that I was no longer cleared to play football, even with surgery or further treatment.

I appreciate and thank everyone for their thoughts, concerns and prayers, and I will shed more light on the situation at a press conference on Monday at the team facility.

Wood, along with Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott, will be available in a 1 p.m. Monday press conference.

Dr. Cappuccino referenced in his statement is Dr. Andrew Cappuccino, listed under the Bills' medical staff as "Team Orthopedist – Spine." Cappuccino earned wide recognition for treating a neck injury to former Bills tight end Kevin Everett in 2007.
