Letter: Historic site on Sycamore more significant than ever

Historic site on Sycamore more significant than ever

The devastating loss to fire of the historic building at 68 Sycamore St. in Buffalo should not obscure the good news about this important site.

The historic preservation advocacy group, Preservation Buffalo Niagara, had identified the threats to the historic buildings at 68 and 72 Sycamore St., had moved to have them officially protected with city historic designation and had recruited a private-sector partner in Rocco Termini to save and rehabilitate them.

Their valiant effort will be rewarded with the positive result of the renewing of 72 Sycamore St., which will be even more significant now.

As the smoke from the fire fades away, it will be clear that Preservation Buffalo Niagara’s leadership in this historic place should be applauded for the benefits it brings to our community at this location and others.
