BLAKE, Karen P.

BLAKE - Karen P. Age 75, of Gowanda, died December 25, 2017. A lifelong resident of Western New York, she was a Pennysaver News reporter/photographer and a Cattaraugus County Legislator. She co-founded H.E.L.P. (Help Eliminate Lawn Pesticides), the WNY environmental group that brought local/national attention to the hazards of the toxins. Awarded for "her pioneering work in educating the public to the dangers of and alternatives to the use of lawn pesticides", Blake was featured in national publications and media including Family Circle Magazine, Sierra Club Magazine, New York Times, as well as the CBS Evening News, 20/20, AM Buffalo and other TV and radio programs. She presented at conferences/ hearings in Buffalo as well as nationally and in Canada and was instrumental in initiating passage of NYS's Lawn Spray Law that provided written content/label information to homeowners. Karen is survived by son, John (Susan) Gautille of Illinois and granddaughter Erin, grandson Nicholas, and sister Janet (Terry) Petri of Springville. She was the daughter of the late John D.
