Niagara Falls police looking for driver of Tahoe involved in hit-and-run

Niagara Falls police are looking for the driver of an SUV following a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian Friday afternoon at 24th Street and Independence Avenue.

The vehicle is described as an older model 2000 to 2006 white, Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle was last seen in the area of 24th Street and Pine Avenue at about 3:15 p.m.

Police identified the victim as Louis J. Muraca, 57, of Forest Avenue.

Muraca was found lying face-down in the street around 3:16 p.m. by passersby, who told police they saw a pickup truck flee the area southbound down 24th Street at a high rate of speed.

Investigators are looking for a older, white Chevrolet Tahoe, believed to be a model year 2000 to 2006. Anyone with information can call Falls police at 286-4711

Muraca was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, Niagara Falls Police said.

The Niagara Falls Police Department’s Traffic Division is requesting assistance from the public and businesses in the area. Anyone with information or possible video surveillance is asked to call (716) 286-4711.
