A 1-year-old male snow leopard has a new home at the Buffalo Zoo.
Altai arrived at the zoo in October and has cleared health quarantine and been introduced to a new habitat, the zoo announced Friday.
Altai was one of three snow leopards born at the Akron Zoo on March 5, 2016, and is named after the Altai Republic in Siberia and Altai Mountain Range in Central and East Asia.
He will live in a habitat along with a 2-year-old female snow leopard, Sabrina.
There are about 5,000 snow leopards left in the wild and about 600 to 700 in zoos around the world, the Buffalo Zoo said.
