CASH’s Faso hits 100
Clarence/Amherst/Sweet Home girls hockey junior forward Emma Faso became the ninth player in the Western New York Girls Ice Hockey Federation to score 100 career points.
She notched a hat trick in CASH’s 6-0 victory against West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden at the Northtown Center.
Frontier/Lake Shore/Orchard Park defeated Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew for a third time this season, 3-2.
LID went up 2-0 early, but FLOP responded with four unanswered goals. Taylor Gehen scored the eventual game-winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in the third. Mary Kromer scored twice for FLOP.
Bowen sets scoring record
Ellicottville boys basketball’s Elliot Bowen became the program’s all-time leader in scoring in the Eagles’ 68-49 victory against North Collins.
Bowen’s 23 points pushed him to 1,389 in his career, two higher than previous program leader Matthew Linsler.
Boys golf tourney added
Another Section VI team tournament has been added to the roster and the question as to which boys golf squad is the best among the public schools in the area will now have a thorough answer.
Section VI will crown a team champion during its annual individual boys individual golf championship tournament/state qualifier May 21 at River Oaks on Grand Island, according to section chairman Nate Leary.
In addition to the standard number of individual golfers who qualify for sectionals from ECIC, Niagara Frontier League, Niagara-Orleans League, CCAA I, CCAA East II and CCAA West II, the six teams that win their respective league crowns will make up the field for the 18-hole team championships.
Orchard Park will represent ECIC by virtue of winning the league’s team championship tournament in October.
Niagara Wheatfield and Medina captured the Niagara Frontier League and Niagara-Orleans League championships, respectively, and also will be in the event, along with the CCAA I, CCAA East II and CCAA West II champions.
The CCAA teams play their season during the spring.
Win streak ends at 11
Gowanda boys basketball ended Silver Creek’s 11-game win streak, using a 19-8 fourth quarter to down the Silver Knights, 55-43.
Gowanda senior Nate Brawdy scored 29 points, grabbed three boards and hit two 3-point shots.
No. 1 boys hockey team ties
Sweet Home boys hockey’s Tyler Edholm scored twice to reach 100 goals in his career, but the the No. 1 Division II team in the state tied with Williamsville East, 2-2.
Lockport star goes D-I
Lockport High School boys volleyball star Zach Schneider announced via Instagram that he will take his talents to Long Beach State in California.
Schneider, a junior, helped the Lions win the Section VI Division I championship, a campaign in which they won three in-season tournaments and defeated all but one team, eventual state champion Penfield of Section V, on their schedule.
Schneider, a first team All-Western New York selection, finished with 230 kills, 140 digs and 52 aces.
Air rifle records broken
Clarence and Lancaster air rifle both broke the previous ECIC record for points in the Red Devils’ 1151-1144 victory. Senior Matt Kirk set an individual ECIC record as well, scoring 295.
