Deputy City Attorney S. Michael Rua was named city attorney on an interim basis by the Tonawanda Common Council on Tuesday.
He replaces Ronald C. Trabucco, the city attorney for 22 years, who announced his retirement.
Rua will serve in the position until the end of December, but will need to run for election in November to remain in the position.
Tuesday was Trabucco's last meeting and he was sent off with accolades from elected city and county officials.
Trabucco told friends and families that joined him, "All I ever wanted to be is an attorney and that's all I ever was ... I never thought about the political aspect."
