Deaths Death Notices
O'NEILL, Gerald N.
O'NEILL - Gerald N. February 23, 1945 - January 14, 2018.
I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back. This is hard, but I was a blessed man, who led a lucky existence and for that I am thankful and grateful. I first got sick in December 2004, diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Bad luck, the doctor said. In 2012 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Bad luck, the doctor said. I decided to be joyful about having had a full life, rather than sad about having to face my mortality. This outlook worked for me, most of the time. My faith and love for my Savior helped me to accept what I could not change. I thank the Lord for the love of my family and dear friends who called daily to talk and pray, to reminisce, to have a beer, to share, to support my journey home. I am at Peace. Now you can find me on the road pedaling with the wind, sitting on my deck toasting the feel of the beautiful sunshine on my back, in the eyes of my grandchildren or in the sweet touch of their hands. Survived by my loving wife, Kathleen Stewart-O'Neill, my dear children, Susan Wood (Ken Bouvier), Jennifer Calandra (Tony), Daniel Soda (Stephanie), Melissa Moeller (Jason), Kristy Donovan (Kyle), Jaclyn Soda (Paul Hattler), nine beautiful grandchildren. Sisters: Peg Hill (Bob), Dorothy Hill (Ralph), Kathy Kornacki (Al), Elly Crouch (Mike). Brother: David O'Neill (Julie). Please join us in a Celebration of Life at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6950 Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120 on Saturday, January 20th. Visitation from 9-11AM and Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. One of my passions was supporting Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Ride for Roswell. Donations may be made to the Ride for Roswell in my memory via check or by visiting the Ride for Roswell page online.
