City of Tonawanda man accused of stealing Jeep faces felony charges

A city of Tonawanda man was charged Tuesday with several felonies after he was accused of stealing a vehicle from a driveway on Brookside Terrace.

Derek J. Schlifke, 30, of Scott Street, also used bank cards he found inside the auto, according to City of Tonawanda police. Schlifke was arrested a week ago by Cheektowaga police on a shoplifting charge. Police said the vehicle was stolen Dec. 17.

Schlifke was charged with four felonies: unauthorized use of vehicle; grand larceny, both for the theft of the auto and the credit cards; and another grand larceny charge for stealing the identity of the cardholder.

The 1999 Jeep Cherokee Schlifke that was allegedly stolen was later recovered in the town of Tonawanda.
