A Town of Tonawanda woman and a Buffalo man were arrested on drunken driving charges after two different accidents Sunday in the city of Tonawanda.
Ann Marie F. Hollerud, 32, of Raintree Island, was charged with DWI after nearly striking a concrete jersey barrier while at the wheel of a vehicle on Main and Young streets, which is closed to traffic. Police said Hollerud turned sharply, avoiding striking the barrier, which caused her vehicle to slide sideways through the intersection about 3:30 a.m.
Hollerud had a blood alcohol content level of .19 percent, police said. She was charged with aggravated DWI, making an unsafe turn and driving at an imprudent speed.
City of Tonawanda police later charged Divine J. Garcia, 28, of Bradley Street, Buffalo, with DWI. Garcia crashed his vehicle through a playground fence at the Riverview School on Taylor Drive. Police said Garcia failed to negotiate a turn at Hackett Drive and Hamilton Street and then drove off the curb before crashing the vehicle through the fence shortly before 5 a.m.
Garcia also was charged with driving at an imprudent speed, criminal mischief and five other motor vehicle and traffic violations. Garcia refused to take a breathalyzer test.
