Lockport man charged with DWI after pedestrian injured in hit-and-run

A Lockport man was arrested after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run Sunday night, according to Lockport police.

The pedestrian was hit near the corner of East Avenue and Washburn Street at about 10:30 p.m. The driver of the vehicle ran from the scene but was taken into custody by officers about 100 yards away, police said.

Robert E. Adams, 24, of Beattie Avenue, was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an injury accident, unlawful possession of marijuana and other unspecified charges. Adams was bleeding from cuts he suffered in the crash, according to police.

The pedestrian was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital and then by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center. His condition was not available Tuesday morning.
