Niagara County’s newest judge, Erin DeLabio, took her oath of office over the holidays and attended specialized training in Albany before taking office in the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport.
DeLabio is the former Wheatfield town justice elected last fall to succeed long-serving Family Court Judge John Batt. She practiced family law as a private attorney. She also served as a law clerk to the county’s other Family Court judge, Kathleen Wojtaszek Gariano, who administered DeLabio’s oath of office before a crowd of more than 200 family and friends.
DeLabio noted that she grew up in a family of eight children, lending a special appeal to her new post.
“I will be compassionate. I will be hard at times, but most of all I'll be decisive, and have the courage to do what is best for children, families and the community,” DeLabio said.
