Registration is underway for Parks & Trails New York’s 20th anniversary “Cycle the Erie Canal” event, an eight-day, 400-mile recreational bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany, scheduled for July 8-15.
Covering between 40 and 60 miles per day, cyclists travel along the Erie Canalway Trail, which is 80 percent complete and will, by 2020, be finalized as part of the statewide 750-mile Empire State Trail. In 2017, the tour drew 750 cyclists from 37 states and Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The registration fee for the full ride is $795 for adults and $435 for youths ages 6-17 and non-cycling participants. Erie Canal Trailblazers, who commit to raise money for Parks & Trails New York’s trail development efforts along the Erie Canalway Trail, pay $100.
