Remember when sneakers, T-shirts and shorts were all you needed in gym class?
Students are bringing iPads to gym class at Hoover Elementary School in the Town of Tonawanda as part of the school's iFitness program, which encourages third- and fourth-graders to create physical fitness videos, integrating technology with physical fitness.
Physical education teacher Heather Ratka told the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School Board that the three-week unit gives students a chance to collaborate, create and choose their own physical fitness plan.
Students are tested on their physical fitness and then pick exercises that they need work on. The iMovies created by students on iPads use graphics to explain how to do each exercise and then provides demonstrations of the students performing the exercises while heart-pounding electronic dance music plays in the background.
