Man charged with animal abandonment tells police he was tired of taking his dog outside

A Niagara Falls man was charged by police Thursday after he told officers he abandoned his dog because he was tired of taking the dog outside.

A neighbor called police around 11 a.m. when she saw a man let the dog loose onto 19th Street, between Ferry Avenue and Niagara Street, according to a city police report. The neighbor was able to get the dog into her vehicle and police went to the man's apartment.

Arvin Christian, 58, of 19th Street, admitted to police it was his dog and that he had kicked the dog out.

"I'm tired of taking his (expletive) outside," Christian told police, according to the report.

Christian was charged with a misdemeanor count of animal abandonment. The dog, which was described by police as aggressive, was taken to the Niagara SPCA.
