Dough Boyz, a locally based edible cookie dough restaurant, has expanded outside Western New York with a new name.
Earlier this week, it opened a location at Destiny USA, a mall in Syracuse. Another store opened at Albany's Crossgates Mall in December. It is in talks to open other New York locations in Rochester, Poughkeepsie and Palisades.
The stores opened under a new name, Dough Life, after owner Joseph Francabandiero ran into trademark issues. General Mills, which owns Pillsbury and its advertising mascot the Pillsbury Doughboy, sent a cease and desist letter giving the company 90 days to drop the "Dough Boyz" moniker before it took further legal action.
Stores at Walden Galleria and Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls will be rebranded under the new banner within the next month or so, complete with new signage. A new website is up and running at EdibleDoughLife.com, and its Facebook page has been renamed to reflect the change.
The restaurant sells cookie dough made with specially treated ingredients that make it safe to eat. It is scooped like ice cream into cones and dishes.
