Driver, 18, killed in head-on-collision on Southwestern Boulevard in Hamburg

An 18-year-old man was killed early Friday in a crash on Southwestern Boulevard near Erie Community College, according to Town of Hamburg Police.

Jacob Butterfield, of Derby, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hamburg Town Police said.

Butterfield was alone in his vehicle, traveling east on Southwestern when he crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with a vehicle in the westbound lane at about 6 a.m., according to Hamburg Town Police, in a posting on Facebook.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, the sole occupant of the car, was taken to Erie County Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, Hamburg Town Police said.

Police had not yet determined why Butterfield's vehicle crossed lanes. An investigation was underway.

Alcohol doesn't appear to have been a contributing factor, according to Hamburg Town Police.
