An Ohio man was beaten early Wednesday morning in downtown Niagara Falls, according to a city police report.
The attack happened at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of Niagara Street between Third and Fourth streets, according to the police report.
A police officer was flagged down by the man's girlfriend. The man had a gash above his left eye and both eyes swollen. The victim told police two men approached him and asked for cigarettes, knocked him to the ground, then punched and kicked him. They did not take anything from him. The attackers ran east on Niagara Street, the victim told police.
The man was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to be evaluated.
